New manuscripts on World in words in Edda

Most of the manuscripts in the exhibition World in words have now been replaced. Among the new manuscripts on display are two important Skálholt books: on the one hand, an

Opið handrit. Skriftin er smágerð og línur þéttar. Síður eru ljósbrúnar, eilítið krumpaðar í hornum.

extraordinarily beautiful Jónsbók manuscript (AM 351 fol.), and on the other hand, another primary manuscript of Eiríks saga rauða (AM 557 4to). The exhibition also now includes one of the oldest and most significant encyclopedic manuscripts preserved in Iceland (GKS 1812 4to), which contains, among other things, an ancient world map and images of the signs of the zodiac.

Two important manuscripts are still on display, which have been loaned from the Royal Library in Copenhagen: Morkinskinna, one of the oldest manuscripts preserving kings' sagas, and an illustrated Edda manuscript from the 18th century."
